SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS’ RENEWABLE ENERGY CHALLENGE
The 2nd edition of the Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge (SHSREC) was expanded to all sixteen (16) regions of the country. This includes 16 regional competitions, 2 zonal competitions and the grand finale. However, fourteen (14) regions participated in the challenge. The Western North Region and the North East Region could not participate in the challenge due to diverse reasons.
The Energy Commission was delighted to have Bui Power Authority come onboard as the Major Sponsor for the 2nd edition of the Challenge.
Throughout the country, 90 Senior High/ Technical Schools participated in the challenge of which 12 were boys’ schools, 8 girls’ schools and 70 mixed schools. At the end of the regional competition, the following schools qualified to represent their region at the zonal competition;
The schools would be grouped into Northern and Southern Zones with each zone comprising 7 Senior High/ Technical schools. The Northern Zone and Southern would have their competition in Kumasi and Accra respectively.
The Northern Zonal Competition took place at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on 27th August, 2021 and the Southern Zonal Competition at Accra on 30th August, 2021.
The following schools qualified for the grand finale on 14th October, 2021 during the 7th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair at the Accra International Conference Centre.
