Senior High Schools' Renewable Energy Challenge


Introduction

  • As part of the Energy Commission’s mandate under the Renewable Energy Act, 2011 (Act 832) to promote the development and utilization of renewable energy resources and technologies in Ghana, the Commission seeks to undertake a renewable energy challenge for second cycle institutions.
  • The 2nd edition of the Senior High Schools' Renewable Energy Challenge, will be organized by the Energy Commission as part of the 7th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair to promote research and innovation in renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE&EE) to address developmental challenges and to improve everyday lives.
  • The Energy Commission will collaborate with the Ghana Education Service to create an opportunity for Senior High School’s in Ghana to submit innovative RE&EE projects conceived by students.
  • Selected senior high schools will be offered a platform to showcase their innovations at the 7th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair where the most outstanding projects will also be awarded prices.

Objectives

The objectives of the Senior High Schools' Renewable Energy Challenge are to:

  • Instill a passion for solving renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change challenges in students through research and innovation.
  • Develop research skills of senior high school students and promoted technological innovation in RE&EE.
    Develop presentation skills of senior high school students.
  • Promote self-confidence and encourage hard work through public recognition and rewards.
  • Selection Process
    The Selection Committee for the Senior High Schools' Renewable Energy Challenge would be made up of representatives of the Energy Commission and the Ghana Education Service.
  • The Committee will evaluate entries from senior high schools from for selection to the Finals and the Grand Finale stage.

Venue for Competition

Grand Finale of the Senior High Schools' Renewable Energy Challenge will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre during the 7th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair.
